In the Covid Summer of 2021 we were a little under-occupied so we raised $14,638.66 for two charities in the Rapha Ambitious 220 BVI.
The Rapha Ambitious 220 was an annual charity bike ride from Manchester to London which organisers took virtual and global at the height of Covid restrictions. Taking place over the weekend of June 26/27, the Rapha Ambitious 220 could either be split over two days, taking Saturday night to recover, or be completed in an ambitious 24-hour push. There were no rules on ride venue as long as the miles were tracked on Strava.
So, on that weekend of 10 riders set out on the roads of Tortola for a 220-mile ride to raise funds for UK charity Ambitious About Autism, and local BVI special needs school, the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre. Eight riders completed the full 220 miles covering 1,760 mile in two days. In total, 1,957 miles were covered by 10 riders.
$10,085 was raised for Eslyn Henley Richiez and $4,553.66 for Ambitious About Autism in the UK. The generous donations of major corporate sponsors Conyers, Martin Kenney & Co, Ocorian, and Carey Olsen were instrumental in providing the fundraising base with donations of $6,600, the rest was raised by the riders.
Team Broadsword managed to ride the battering 220 miles (just) but also pulled together the event, riderss, sponsors, graphics, web site, and support.
